Case Study: Faster-cure Wearing Compound for Protecting Discharge Chutes

The Challenge

A mining company experienced challenges with their dewatering centrifuge chutes, which were coated with LOCTITE® PC 9313TM Hi-Impact Wearing Compound. They sought a faster-curing alternative that could provide the same level of particle wear resistance and meet or exceed the current recoating intervals.

The new product had to meet or exceed the current recoating intervals of the pre-existing LOCTITE® product in use. The functional cure time needed to be within 4 hours from application time. 

Henkel’s Solution

Henkel recommended LOCTITE® PC 9593™ Nordbak® Wear Prevention Coating as an advanced solution for high-wear environments.

In a side-by-side comparison, one centrifuge was coated with LOCTITE® PC 9593TM and the other with LOCTITE® PC 9313TM. The customer sought a faster curing version, and the trial showed that the new LOCTITE® PC 9593TM was as durable while offering a shorter cure time.

The Outcome

  • Backup Identified: The results of the study provided the customer with a reliable backup product for emergencies or limited maintenance windows.
  • Faster Curing: The new LOCTITE® solution with cure time of just 4 hours could be used in times when time was of critical importance.
  • Great Durability: The side by side comparison showed both LOCTITE® solutions perform up to customer expectations.
